Steve grew up working in construction, starting with the family business, Meichtry California Company, right out of high school. He did not have it easy, and worked from the ground up on many projects as a young man. He worked with his Dad, Paul, and the company foremen learning aspects of construction from the "survey" stage to "completion" as an apprentice until becoming a Superintendent himself in 1974. His first superintendent position was finishing the final phase of the
Some of the larger commercial projects completed during his time in the family business:
Flagstaff Community Cultural Center, Flagstaff, Az; Park Plaza Shopping Center, Buena Park, Ca; Fountain Plaza Shopping Center, Cerritos, Ca. (Recieved "The Los Angeles Beautiful Award"); El Presidente Restaurant, Cerritos, Ca; Laurel Plaza Industrial Complex, North Hollywood, Ca; "The Establishment" Motor Home Manufacturing Facility for Galpin Motors, Sylmar, Ca; Chaminade High School Remodel, West Hills, Ca.
Steve also completed many residential remodel projects during this time.
In 1986 Steve acquired his own Contractor's license and started SP Meichtry Construction while still working in the family business.
From 1987 to present, Steve has focused mainly on smaller commercial and residential remodeling projects, as he likes to be "in touch" with his clients. He feels that a project will suffer without that personal touch, and that the client will be much more comfortable during the stress of a remodeling project knowing that someone is there to watch over all stages of construction.
